A short introduction on antique lace:

A clear definition of lace is very complex. A simplified, but valid, definition would be that lace is "a lot of holes surrounded with thread." The term "lace" covers a great variety of openwork fabrics. But lace is more than techniques. It is history, glamor, romance, fashion, status, workmanship, ...

Strangely, in all its rich variety, lace appears to be strictly a European phenomenon. No lace developments occurred on the other five continents. It is a fact that Flanders (Belgium), France, and Italy are the most important lace centers. Being born and growing up in a Flemish lace family was a privilege. This privilege laid the foundation of a true love for lace.

Since the start of the shop in 1994, we have specialized in buying and selling antique lace. I inherited a big collection of antique lace from my father, who was also a collector. And we bought an outstanding collection when we started the shop. Our knowledge about antique lace is growing along with the collection. We regularly carry a stock of at least 1000 items with prices usually ranging between $300 to $1,500 although we do have pieces starting from $50 and going on up to as much as $25,000.

Every day, we are still learning about antique lace and lace in general. The most important attitude in this business is to work to the best of one's knowledge. We all have to accept that we can make mistakes, but we have to be open to other insights. The antique dealer's job is to learn! I wish you a pleasurable time browsing our site!
